We have A LOT of data we use smartsheet for and it is easy to miss something with our collaborators. I would like to be able to set notifications only when their name is assigned something and not when the entire column of "assigned" changes. Any way to do this?
Conditional notifications are currently being developed which will enhance your ability to set user specific notifications (for example, notify only the user assigned to a task of changes to that row). This exact problem can be solved using Azuqua, an integration partner of Smartsheet. I work for Azuqua and the conditional notification scenario you referred to is one of the many scenarios we enable inside of Smartsheet.
Using Azuqua you can set up a monitor for a change either to a row, column, discussion or new row added to a sheet and then send a notification to a person assigned to that row. The notification can also be based on matching a specific condition of a cell inside that row as well. In your case, using Azuqua you could enable a workflow that would trigger when a person is assigned to a row and on that instance send a notification.
