The Smartsheet Community is THE BEST. It is a supportive and resourceful group where members generously help each other, and I try to contribute by answering questions.

What is the best example of a community you have seen?
The best example of a community that I have seen was the library network admin support group for the Sirsi-Dynix Integrated Library System from the year 2006 to the year 2011.
That group was small enough and specific enough that we spoke the same 'tech' language with each other, and we came together from all over the world to support each other in our day-to-day challenges.
Participation was optional, but due to the nature of the work it became necessary for me to follow along every week.
Plus, this was at a time when our employers would send us to the annual conference to meet each other face-to-face, which also made our connections to each other stronger.
Library folk are naturally inclined to seek and share information with each other, and it was a perfect recipe for a strong community.

Re: Meet Carson Penticuff, our April Member Spotlight! ๐
Congratulations @Carson Penticuff ๐ What an incredible spotlight - you truly deserve all the recognition!
Your journey from documentation reader to Community Champion is so inspiring, and I love how you've transformed Smartsheet into your go-to solution for complex workflows. That insight about linking and referencing data across sheets resonating with fellow consultants everywhere!
The fact that you've learned "most of what you know" from our Community speaks volumes about both your dedication and the incredible knowledge-sharing culture we have here. Plus, a retired competitive speedcuber studying Japanese? That's the kind of continuous learning mindset that makes our community so special.
Thank you for being such an amazing advocate and for all the ways you help fellow Smartsheet users navigate their own challenges. Here's to many more years of simplifying workflows and sharing wisdom!
Cheers! โจ

Best community I have ever seenโฆ I would say Season 1 as it got bit too weird in the last season even for meโฆ why? Because it was mixture of totally different talents, personalities, backgrounds.. but they all worked together and it was funโฆ just like here in Smartsheet community which gets place #2 for me ๐คฃ

Re: Folder-level permissions
As the number of workspaces grow, it would be so much more convenient to be able to apply the same type of sharing permissions for workspaces and individual sheets/reports/dashboards at the FOLDER level, as well. For example, I have several product development workspaces, one for each product, but would prefer to keep all similar products within a single workspace and simply share the folder contents with respective/appropriate users. From an organizational perspective, this would make it so much easier to manage. I could also keep master templates and other related items with potentially confidential information in the same workspace within its own folder and not have it shared or visible to others.
In-Line Editing on Cards in Board View, Now Generally Available
May, 30, 2025
Previously, making changes to fields on cards in board view required users to double-click a card to open the expanded record details panel. We released an inline editing experience in board view so that users can modify fields (such as text/number, date, contact list, dropdown list, and symbols) directly on a cardโs surface without needing to open the right panel. ย Learn Moreย

Best community I've been involved in is the Helix community.
Helix is/was the first multiuser database to run on personal computers and the first visual [no-code] programming environment. It came out in 1984 on the Mac. But since it was aimed at business owners and they tended to write their own custom apps to run their business the way they wanted it run, they pretty much had to help each other. The community began on CompuServe (probably before most of your time โ CompuServe was a dial-up, nationwide service that preceded AOL This worldwide community at times spun off topics on politics but mostly was able to put aside differences in order to provide free encouragement and support to other community members. The longterm members were well-known and well-respected and we often learned about other aspects of their lives. And it was around so long that even those of us who joined later were around long enough to become longterm members. When CompuServe died, the community morphed into a listserver, and it still operates today via groups.io.

Re: Introduce yourself & get to know your peers!
Rebeca, I sure enjoyed chatting with lots of users at the Gov Smartsheet conference in May and hearing how they use Smartsheet in their org.
