Can more than one auto number column exist in a sheet?

I have two forms (internal and external use) which are attached to the same sheet. The internal form will be used quarterly when we want to push documentation to our external partner. We have set up Dynamic Views for our external partners, and we want to see this documentation notice placed in the DV of each partner.

Can more than auto number field column exist in one sheet? I'm having difficulty adding that feature - it's grayed out when I try to select it.

Also, depending on the specifics, there might be a way to create another auto-numbering column without using the system column.
