Formatting on Grids
Hello,
I am creating a Workspace that can be "Saved As New" and reused for my team.
The formatting on my grids is disrupted each time a new row is entered. For example, when a form entry is logged on a grid, multiple new rows are inserted, the font changes and the background changes to a different colour. This is incredibly frustrating & looks sloppy.
From my research, it does not look like I can set anything as a default other than Arial 10 and a white-fill. If this is correct, why hasn't this been addressed by Smartsheet? If there is a work-around, I'd appreciate it if it was shared! Note, I am not working off of "Templates".

Do you have any conditional formatting rules set in the sheet?

Do you need to have conditional formatting for every row and cell? That seems like a very cumbersome way to set default settings.
-
No. You definitely do not need it. I was just asking if you have any conditional formatting rules in place because that could potentially be a cause of your troubles if you do.
-
None that are impacting the formatting I am referring to.

Ok. In that case, try resetting the formatting of the column(s) in question by licking on the column header(s) and then clicking the "Clear Formatting" button in the top toolbar.

Hi Paul,
Unfortunately, that results in the same thing. Format is automatically reverted back to Arial, the rows are back to white, in spite of clearing the format, resetting & saving.

The default Smartsheet formatting is white cells with Arial. When you "clear formatting" then it will clear the sheet back to Smartsheet's default: white & Arial.
If you want to apply formatting so that all of your rows in the sheet have the same colour and font, make sure that this is applied to entire rows by selecting the row numbers on the left down all of your current content:
Then as long as your new rows are created immediately below rows with formatting, the formatting will auto-fill down your sheet, including if these rows are submitted through a form. Here's more information: Use or Override Automatic Formatting and Formula Autofill
Cheers,
Genevieve

@Genevieve P. Thank you!
@ClaireWallace My apologies. I misunderstood what you were looking for. I was reading it as you were wanting to remove the formatting that was being automatically applied to new rows. After reading again, I realize that Genevieve's response should be the one you are looking for.
