Corresponding with External contacts

Is there a way to correspond to an external contact in Smartsheets through the comments without sharing the sheet? We'd like to keep communications in Smartsheets, but we don't want to always share the sheet with a contact. Is this possible, or do we always have to share the entire sheet with whoever we @ in the comments?

@Tyler Pasquarella You could use an Update Request at the row level, and select the specific columns you want them to see without having to share the sheet. They'll be able to read all comments posted, add their own and submit.

Hey Tyler,

If you have access to dynamic views, I would suggest using this. If you have a contact column, you can restrict the view by contact. You would just need to be sure to also share the view to them as well. If you have a column for comments, you could include that for them to update as needed. You could also allow them to add attachments if that is necessary.

In the snips below, Jane Doe would be able to see information from the sheet and update, but only for the lines that have her indicated as the contact.

I was looking more for correspondance just via email. Like is it possible to send an email through a comment, not share the sheet, and they reply to the email Smartsheets send, and that email gets posted in the discussion?
