Pivot Table Refresh Cadence

Hi Team,

What's the refresh cadence for Pivot Tables when Update Immediately is selected?

Currently, the pivot table I manage takes data from sheet(A) with formulae references that point to around 50 sheets

I am asking because I noticed recently that when an update is made on any of those 50 sheets, the formulae get updated immediately in Sheet A, but the pivot tables take a while to refresh.

  • Hey @svenu

The Update Immediately option in Pivot will trigger the Pivot workflow to run when a change happens in the source sheet. However, yes, as you've seen, that doesn't necessarily mean the Pivot will complete the change the same minute the source is updated. In general, it can take around 5 minutes for the sheet to be updated.

That said, if there are a lot of requests happening at the same time, Pivot falls back on a scheduled list that runs all of the configs every hour. This background process helps to make sure that changes that are made to the source Sheet are put into the target Sheet.

If this happens, you may see that the updates don’t happen immediately (meaning within ~5 minutes) and that they instead update within ~1 hour of the change.

If your delay is longer than an hour, please contact Smartsheet Support through the Support Portal with additional details, such as the Workflow Name, Owner Email, Source Sheet, Target Sheet, Timestamps of when the workflow should have run and Timestamps of when the workflow actually ran.

    Cheers,

    Genevieve
