Automation workflow between 2 Smartsheet's, can it work fi they have different columns?


I had an automation in a closed IT ticket file, if an item is reopened to move back to the active open sheet. The original active ticket open ticket sheet has undergone multiple changes as in columns added and formatting. Now, the automation does not work to send the reopened tickets to the original open sheet. Do the sheets need to same comparable columns and formulas, formatting in order for the automation to work and sent the reopened tickets back?
