Release Scheduling - Create a Dynamic Release Drop Down

edited 09/28/23 in Formulas and Functions

This use case allows business customers the ability to request support, based on a weekly release window. Future support may be reserved. The release day is every Tuesday. For reporting and counting purposes, I don't want to provide the user with a date picker. I want to drive the # of weeks per year and the corresponding Tuesday.

In short, present the user with a list of release option in "39 - 09/26/2023" format. Bonus round if I can prevent past weeks from being selected so only the release schedule 2 weeks ahead is available. This is week 39. So, the first selection available would be 42 - 10/17/2023.

The only way I know how to do this is to create a drop-down column and manually type 52 entries and remove entries each week. After attending Engage, I'm pretty sure there is a formula that can be performed. So, here I am.

The user will not interact with the sheet. They will submit requests using a form. We don't have Bridge, so I need to be able to do this without Bridge. I am open to adding any columns necessary to accomplish this.

I do capture a Submitted date and the requested release entry goes into a column called Release Schedule.

There currently isn't a way for a dropdown to dynamically/automatically change what can be selected from a Form directly within Smartsheet (without using the API or Bridge or Data Shuttle).

We could use a formula to display options in a sheet, but this won't adjust the values stored in the Column Properties (which is what determines the list in the Form field).
