ODBC Linked Table Long Text Fields

When creating the linked table in MS Access is there any way to force column format to something else besides long text? Long text fields cannot be used with joins in MA Access.

I use the live data connector for a lot of Access work, and I have a local table that I dump everything into before anything else. So the user pushes a button that refreshes the local copy. The benefit to this approach is that you can build in some quality control to ensure that the user is working with the latest data.

But the local table and the append query are invisible to the user.

James thank you for the suggestion. I do something similar with make table queries in Access. The make table process allows me to format the long text fields to the proper format, they I use the formatted tables to join to our Data warehouse tables.
