Character Limit Exceeded for Email Subject Line to Docusign

We have a form connected from Smartsheet to DocuSign. I recently added a field name from Smartsheet to the DocuSign email subject line. On the first try i got an error message from Smartsheet "Invalid Request Parameter: The request contained at least one invalid parameter. Length exceeds the maximum of 100 characters for 'emailSubject". When i looked on line it said that DocuSign would truncate the subject line (which is fine). So how do i get the Smartsheet side to go ahead and generate the document? Is there a setting on Smartsheet i need to increase the character limit? Is there a workaround I can try?

You can make a helper column to truncate within smartsheet (and have that field sent to Docusign)
The formula would be (replace subject with your field name):
=LEFT(Subject@row, 100)
