Require a number format

Is there a way to force input in a form to be in a specific number format? For example, require that a customer number be 10 digits, or an account number be XXXXXX-XXX?

You can add validation to check the data input is a number but not the format of the number or the length of the number.

Thank you. Not the answer I was hoping for, but now I won't waste time trying to make it work :)
