Counting name and flag in another sheet

Hi,

I have a sheet that lists Muppets and a traffic light flag. In a sheet I'll use for dashboard matrix info, I want to count how many times each Muppet has each colour of flag. Each Muppet is listed in a column called Metric.

My countifs formula is returning a value of 0 when I know that Ms Piggy has one red flag (for example). I am using a single range in my lookup called Metric 1.

Grateful for any guidance.

Your first range reference should be to the column that contains Ms Piggy and the second reference to the column that contains the traffic lights. I would expect the formula to look something like:

=COUNTIFS({Muppet},Metric@row, {Status}, "Red")

I think that works but it leaves me creating a lot more references for all the columns that I had covered with metric 1. Thanks.
