Copy and paste issue

I am trying to copy 40 rows and 5 columns of numbers from Excel and paste into Smartsheet. Each cell in Excel has a single number (in general format) and when I try and past into Smartsheet, it puts the row of numbers vertically or if I hit Ctrl+V it comes up with text I copied a long time ago. I have tried copying the numbers into a clean Excel spreadsheet before pasting without formatting into Smartsheet, but I am having the same issue. I'm sure it is user error, but I don't know what I am doing wrong. Any ideas of my error would be most appreciated.

Try importing into smartsheet via file -> import, once imported, copy the cells, and paste them to the sheet you need the data to be on.

Copying and pasting from excel can be weird sometimes

I will try that. What is the best way to import if my Excel spreadsheet has numerous tabs?

  • Did you ever figure out a resolution? I am new user on smartsheets at my new job, I am having the same exact issues. I can not seem to figure out a fix. This seems to a major problem for years as I read all the community disucssions about it back several years. Are you on Mac? I. am wondering if it is only an issue for Mac users.

I did not get a resolution for my issue on a PC. It seems like a simple issue, but I just can't figure it out.

I clicked and held on A1 and then dragged through E40 to select all 5 columns and 40 rows. Then I typed Ctrl+C to copy. Below shows my copied range of values.

I then went into Smartsheet (and also tested in a fresh Excel file), select a starting cell (you can see where I clicked because it's the only cell in the range that's not highlighted blue) and typed Ctrl+V. Once I typed Ctrl+V, the data appeared and was highlighted. I didn't highlight the area in which I wanted the values pasted.

All values copied over correctly. Are you performing the same action, or if not help me understand what you're doing different.
