Can you filter a Dashboard?

Hello,

I currently have a sheet linked to a form where several employees input projects under their name and we have a calculation sheet for all the activities that feeds into dashboard that shows all the activities for the entire team.

I would like to see if there is an easy way to filter this information into the dashboard by individual employee, so a dashboard could be easily accessed with only the projects under their name throughout the year.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    Hi @Lindsay Megenhardt

Filtering function doesn't exist in dashboards now. While you can't filter the metric widgets you have in your dashboard, you can do it in a report. If you've a field containing the individual employee's name tagged to rows, you can create a filter in the report by Current User and when you add it to the dashboard, make sure to select "Their own perspective" in the Viewer Mode. This will show the same report with different data sets based on the logged in user.

    Thanks,

Live multi level Filtering in Smartsheet is something lots of our clients have been asking us for, so using the Smartsheet API we have created just that solution. A 14 day free trial is available and the cost starts at $125 a month. Sorry we have to charge for this, but it took months to build it so it is self configurable by the user.

    Hope that helps?

  • Regarding the smarter dashboards - I had a look at the pricing. What do you mean by data sources? Is a data source in this context a sheet?

    Hi Kerry

thanks for asking and yes all the sources of data can be in Smartsheet which means that data can be editable via the dashboard if you wish. Some of our clients also connect their Dashboards to a SQL server which is the database behind many systems like Salesforce etc. You may have other data held in Excel or in accounts like Zero or Quickbooks which you wish to surface in the dashboard?

You are welcome to taking out the free trial and we are happy to provide an hour of Q & A to help you find out if what we offer provides just what you need? The biggest request from Smartsheet users is that they need multi level filtering in their dashboards, so they can drill down to seek out any detail they may need. That's why we built our Smarter Dashboards solution, as Smartsheet do say it is on their roadmap, but no sign that it will be any time soon.

    Hope this has helped
