Publishing vs Sharing - Not Sure of Difference?

Hey - I've been looking into this but feel like I haven't found a clear answer.

What is the difference between sharing a dashboard with someone as a viewer vs. publishing the dashboard and selecting 'Only Available to Users who are Shared the Item'?

Long story short - my team support several external partners and we are trying to determine if we can share the dashboard with them directly instead of sending a PDF each time. They do have Smartsheet accounts.

So what is the recommended way to go about this? Appreciate any insights! Thank you!

@vzarzycki there isn't much of a difference. a few things you'll notice is that the published version will offer more flexibility with external vendors who do not have smartsheet accounts. Also, a published dashboard is embeddable on their portals/websites by copying and pasting the URL into an iframe block.
