Autosave setting not working
Hello,
My autosave setting does not seem to be work working, and I wanted to see if was user error, a bug or something else. I've updated my user settings to autosave after 1 minute, yet, it's not doing this. I've lost updates because of it. I sometimes get the 'it's been 10 minutes since your last save banner' (which has been helpful) - but I prefer the auto save to work as designed. I have tried changing the duration to see if that could 'trigger' autosave, but that doesn't seem to work either.
Have you experienced issues like this, and if so, how did you solve it?

The auto-save is only after a certain amount of time of inactivity.

Something has changed in the auto-save functionality. I keep getting reminders to save my Smartsheet schedule because I haven't saved it in 10 minutes. I never got these reminders before.

@vicvande1 Do you have auto-save turned on?
-
@Paul Newcome Where is autosave? I have been working in smartsheets for 5 weeks and never had this issue. It popped up yesterday and now it has stopped. Thanks

@vicvande1 It is in your personal settings. The reminder after 10 minutes is just a general reminder based on when the sheet if it had not been saved since the last update. The autosave is for inactivity and/or leaving/closing a sheet.

@Paul Newcome My autosave is on and saves after 1 minute so not sure why I got that 10 minute general reminder. Thanks

It auto-saves after 1 minute of inactivity. If you keep making changes, there is no inactivity to trigger the auto-save. The 10 minute notice is regardless of activity or inactivity.

Good morning Paul,
In settings, both the AutoSave functions are checked and Blue, but the AutoSave Function is still not working. If you hover over the (I) to the right of the Auto Save Settings line, it says the function is disabled, and you need to click the save Icon or Ctrl + S. Do I need to set this up through my company?
Thank you

@Michael AutoSave Are you able to provide some screenshots?

I can, but to try and capture the Hover Response will be almost impossible. Let me give a shot.
Thank you

Please, make an autosave feature even if there is activity. It would be sooo helpful and would improve user experience a lot. I modify my sheets continuously and it's really inconvenient that I can't autosave them at say, 30 seconds, so that changes will show real-time to the other users, unless I remember to manually save. I also don't like getting the 10 minute pop-up continuously. Thank you.

Seriously, how the heck does an app not autosave—regardless of activity—in 2024? I hadn't lost data from an unsaved document since maybe 1997…and then Smartsheet f'd me when my computer crashed. I imagine this is by design, but it frankly seems idiotic. Autosave + version history = problem solved.

HI @Paul Newcome thanks for this response. Your comment is marked as "answer" but your statement doesn't fit with the user interface which clearly also says that autosave will save "when I leave the sheet".
Bug: when I close a browser tab (leaving the sheet), my edits to a sheet are not saved. There is a popup warning of lost changes but why not trigger an autosave at the same time as closing of a tab in browser? When will this bug be fixed? This has caused recurring communication problems over and over again where team members make edits, think their edits are saved but then others in the team do not see the changes. Weekly we deal with this SmartSheet bug. Google sheets does not have this problem.
