Cell Linking and Document Generation

I have a sheet (sheet # 1) that is using 'Cell Linking' to another sheet (sheet # 2), pretty straight forward. I have an automation on Sheet # 1 that is generating a document when a column is added or updated; again, pretty straight forward.

Issue: The document is NOT generating when I have 'Cell Linking' in use, but will generate when 'Cell Linking' is removed. I tested the trigger on 'Run Workflow' WHEN TRIGGERED and HOURLY; same result.

I am wondering if anyone has encountered this, has a workaround and/or if this is a known limitation in Smartsheet.

You cannot use a cell link or formula with a cross sheet reference as a trigger for an automation. You would need to use a different trigger and set the cell linked column as a condition.
