Does the "Assign people" action in automations include/trigger notifications?

I'm trying to have an automation populate a contact column, but only for the purposes of filtering by that column for Dynamic View (not to actually notify them, request updates, etc.)… the "Assign people" action appears to be the only way to automate the updating of a contact column, but I want to be sure that notifications aren't going to be automatically sent out by the automation.
