Notifying viewers when status changes

Is it possible to notify the viewers once a status has changed in one of my columns? If so, how would I set that up?

Ex. When I mark a project as "complete" then it will shoot an email to a designated person showing them that this change just took place.

Yes, you can set up a Workflow with an alert to trigger when that change happens.
