LOVE
French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry stated it very well:
"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea."
A mentor is someone who gets you to fall in love with the end result. Once you have the love, its easy to guide the actions.

A mentor needs to be present, objective, and authentic.

Engaging. I want and need my mentor to engage and challenge me to expand from where I'm at and extend my current knowledge level upwards towards and thru them.
-
It's hard to choose one-word because it depends on both the Mentor and Mentee's Characters.
For me, I will start with Engaging. I will follow that by Inspiring.
-
Passion - to listen, guide, and inspire.

Trusted

Inquisitive
Often, you come to a mentor with a problem and after they ask you some questions, somehow you figure out the answer to the problem yourself. I like a mentor that helps me tap my own potential!

Empathetic

Altruistic
A mentor puts the mentee first and does not project his/her beliefs, but helps the mentee to become the best they can be through the mentee's desire to change and improve.
-
Caring
A good mentor needs to genuinely care about the person he/she is mentoring and be willing to invest the time and encouragement to help the mentee toward the intended outcomes. -
My one word is: Thoughtful
To me, a good mentor listens to you and asks questions. Then they think through what they've heard and offer suggestions or ask more questions to get me to think differently about the problems I face.
-
LISTENING…..I think a good mentor needs to be able to listen. I'm sure a lot of mentors have a certain agenda they want to address, however, that may not be the particular challenge for the mentee. Listen to what the challenges are and provide direction.
