temporarily suspend sharing

I have a sheet that is shared to over 200 people from another company. I need a way to be able to temporarily suspend sharing so that I can unhide hidden columns and make changes to the sheet without those users wandering in while I'm doing it. They should see a message telling them that the sheet is temporarily suspended while the administrator is performing maintenance on it, or something to that effect.
