Skipping the middleman (calculation sheet)
The company I'm working for has a database that houses info for our external clients, the database is constantly being updated nearly daily, I currently utilize a separate sheet to perform =countifs contain functions to create visuals on a dashboard for various statistics based off the columns of information as it updates.
What I'm wondering now is whether or not if I am able to forgo the need to have a separate sheet for calculations as while automatic, this allows for room of error if new data that is entered is not exactly the same as what was written as a criterion within the formula.

What is the reason for the CONTAINS function? Are you using multi-select dropdowns or some other reason for counting when text is within a string as opposed to equal to a string?

Yes I have multiple columns that I am pulling data from, that are select drop-downs.

If you are evaluating multi-select dropdowns for individual selections within, you will need to continue using the calculation sheet.

In that case, is there any way for the calculation to be set to atomically update whenever the database updates? For example, if a new item to the dropdown is added, is there a way to forgo the need to manually create another =contains functions?

It depends. Can you provide some screenshots (sample data is fine) for context?
