Copy Rows with Hierarchy

Hi,

I have a sheet with hierarchy once one is marked delivered the row with the hierarchy under it moves to a purchased sheet. Once it is in the purchased sheet I would like it to copy rows that are blank with the hierarchy back to the main sheet. The automation is working if I force it to run but it is not working automatically.

I have the blank parent one and the children underneath as a "template" in the purchased sheet. So when a new row enters from the main sheet and the status is delivered, I need it to copy the blank parent and child back to the main sheet.

    Hi @Jett

As your automation workflow is only working when you run it manually, It sounds like the cells that trigger the automation might contain cell links or cross-sheet formulas. Smartsheet doesn’t initiate the copy row action when the triggering cell includes these, so that endless loops are avoided. Check out the blue “note” boxes in the following help articles for more on this:

Manually running a workflow ignores the trigger, which is likely why it works when you use the Run Now option.

If your triggering cells do contain cell links or cross-sheet formulas, we’d recommend changing the trigger block to use time-based automation or recurrence workflows.

If the triggering cells don’t contain cell links or cross-sheet formulas, it might be that your workflows have created an infinite loop, eg: workflow one copies a row from sheet 1 to sheet 2, workflow 2 copies the same row from sheet 2 to sheet 1, and so on. You’d need to change at least one of the workflows so that they don’t trigger each other in order for them to keep working.

    Hope that helps!
