dynamic dashboard update

Is it possible on a dashboard for a widget to be dynamically updated?

In the image above the "In Progress" is "Rich Text" widget type. I want to be able to check a box (elsewhere…not on the dashboard, and based on the check box - it wouldn't say "In Progress" but it would display a report.

I know i can't have a widget dissapear and be replaced by a report widget, but maybe there is a way for the report to say "In Progress" if a box isn't checked and then when the checkbox is unchecked, "In progress" turns into the actual schedule report….
