Retain Document Mapping
I have created a Project Template, consisting of multiple sheets to support the various activities during the project cycle. One of these sheets is referred to as an “Intake” sheet, whereby the core project information is entered into at the start of the project.
At the start of the project, our project coordinator enters the relevant information on the web-form linked to the “Intake” Sheet, after which several workflows run to gather information from our team members. Part of the workflows is to generate a document, which gathers the data entered on the web-form (fields populated in a row in the Intake-sheet). The form used in the Generate Document is then using the information which is mapped from the intake sheet to generate a document which has all the information neatly present.
The problem we are experiencing is every time we use this Project Template, we do “Save As New” to save the template for each project we are kicking off, however, when we then go into this newly saved project, we must go back into the mapping to re-map the document used for the “generate document” function.
Is there a way to not need to do that and the template will retain the mapping from the template?

Unfortunately, there is not currently a way to do that. There is a previous thread about this in the feature enhancement requests:

Hi @KempenUSA , out of the box, Smartsheet cannot do this right now, however, if you use the InfoSpark Advanced Document Generator (available in the Smartsheet Solution Center) you can get the outcome that you need. The Advanced Document Generator is able to work automatically across multiple sheets.
Alternatively, you might be able to redesign your Smartsheet template architecture so that you can utilise a central sheet for document generation.
Either way - whether it's to talk about the Advanced Document Generator or to get some advice around architecture change options, reach out to InfoSpark via solutions@infospark.com.au.
