Automation Workflows

I'm encountering an issue with Smartsheet's automation workflow. I'm using the “Move a row to another sheet when specified criteria are met” automation, but when I test it, instead of moving just the specified row, it’s moving the entire sheet. I’m unsure what I might be doing wrong since this is a standard template in Smartsheet, and I thought it would be straightforward.

Has anyone successfully used this specific automation? If so, did you have to adjust any settings or take additional steps to make it work as intended?

Thanks in advance for any insights or tips you can share!

    Hi @Dolley

It sounds like the criteria might be too broad, causing more rows to move than expected. Try narrowing down the conditions so only the specific row you want meets them. You could also test it with just one row to make sure the automation is set up right.

Let me know if you'd like help with this or any other Smartsheet questions.

    Thank you, @ChristianFinke,

I'm not certain that the issue is due to broad criteria, but I’ll give it a try by adjusting them. I may also try setting up multiple workflows to handle each specific status change individually, or I could add more detailed specifications for each change to see if that resolves it.

It’s a bit frustrating when things don’t work as expected, but I’ll keep at it and see if these adjustments make a difference.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Hi @Dolley

You're welcome! Breaking it down into multiple workflows, each targeting a specific status, could definitely help narrow down the issue. Sometimes Smartsheet automation can act unexpectedly with broader criteria, so more specific triggers can give you better control. Also, adding extra conditions (like filtering rows by certain fields) might prevent unwanted moves.

If you still encounter issues, feel free to reach out— my team would be happy to keep troubleshooting with you!

@Dolley I've seen this before when the row has child rows within it (hierarchy). Double check that the row isn't a parent for the rest of the rows on the sheet.
