Possible to Undo Sorting from a Day Ago?

Hello all,

A colleague asked me for help with something in Smartsheet I could not solve so I wanted to ask for the community's thoughts!

A collaborator sorted a sheet based on a particular column (in error) and were unable to undo it. This is the next day and I did not see any way to undo (additionally, there were no other columns that could be used to sort the data) to return to the way the sheet was sorted before. (Did recommend the use of Lock Rows in the future. :) )

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Best,

Cassie

    Hi @Cassie L

Unfortunately, Smartsheet doesn’t offer an “undo” for sorting actions, especially after a day has passed. If there’s no backup or saved version, you may need to manually reorder the sheet. Going forward, enabling Locked Rows or saving a backup copy before major edits can help prevent this issue in the future.

I hope this isn't too much of a pain! If you and your team would ever like any Smartsheet support/training or solution builds please feel free to reach out.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. Even in the activity log it just states "Rows Reordered" without any additional information.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but maybe you could set up an automation to yourself that emails you an Excel copy of the sheet every day/week, and if something happens again you can at least go back to that and manually re-order if you needed to.
