Can I perform proximity searches based on a contact's ZIP Code?

I'm trying to conduct a query that will return all of the contacts within a geographic area based on their ZIP Code? For instance, if we have an event in Chicago and wanted to get a list of everyone who lives within 60 miles of the 60602 ZIP Code.

Our previous database application had this functionality, so I know that it's possible, but would be curious to see if it's possible with Smartsheets.

I would say no. There might be a third-party solution that allows you to do something like this, but Smartsheets does not inheritantly have any functions related to addresses or phone numbers. You can find their complete function list here: https://help.smartsheet.com/functions

I was looking through the Apps and Integration and Smartsheets has a lab that will allow you to plot all your addresses on a map. This might help you to visually gather the users near you.
