Data Shuttle Export/Import

Hello,

I am trying to use Data Shuttle to copy information from one column and paste it into another column by first exporting the master sheet then run an import of that export and it seems to be clearing all of my data or not uploading new data.

The export currently exports all data with no filters.

Below is the Import workflow

I want to copy the text that is in Add Admin column to Email - Grouped Academic Partner column

The Id - Coordinator column only populates when the School Name, Program, and Email - Program Coordinator is not blank, then the Add Admin column adds Admin emails based off of the program.

The first thing I would do if I were you is to MANUALLY add a few rows to your destination sheet. For reasons I cannot explain, the "Merge data into the target" really doesn't like it when the destination sheet is completely blank. My conjecture is that since there's nothing in the key column you add, the workflow doesn't continue.

ALSO… your key column is a column formula - this makes me think that the key column IS NOT in your Import data source. So there's a second reason I'm thinking the workflow doesn't continue: the key column only exists in half of the equation.

Since column formulas don't calculate until after data exist on a sheet, this sounds ultimately like an order-of-operations issue. So my suggestion for resolution: Modify your export process. After export, modify the file such that it creates the concatenation of your ID - Coordinator column - so that when it's imported, Smartsheet isn't doing any calculation.

Is there a reason that you're trying to do this with Data Shuttle and exporting / importing? If this is more about just copying data from one column to another, it seems like a formula would be a better fit here?

Hi Danielle, I am using a formula

=IF(NOT(ISBLANK(Program@row)), JOIN(COLLECT([Email - Program Coordinator]:[Email - Program Coordinator], [School Name]:[School Name], [School Name]@row, Program:Program, Program@row), ","), "")

this formula combines email into text, I need it for a contact column and when I do it as a formula it doesn't stay as a contact list - this was my only work around instead of copying and pasting manually

Ah yes, unfortunately formulas won't work well if you need multiple contacts in a cell - if you just needed a single contact in a cell, this thread goes over how to achieve that with formulas
