In Application Alert Notifications without email?

Now that we have the alert notification alert in the top right corner of the SS application, is it possible to have that show the alerts but to not receive an email? I'm in SS all day so I see the alerts and view them in the system and then just delete the emails they generated later. It would be nice if the delivery settings in alerts offered options for System Only or Email & System.

Opposite question: If I want to receive an email only how do I turn off the Notification alert within the application? i have a coworker who likes emails and doesn't want a red alert counter in her face all day. The new notification center has checks for the Notification Center but doesn't let you uncheck them.

Currently there isn't a way to disable the Notification Center. (please see attached picture)
