RESOLVED Lost Permission to My Own SmartSheet!

I logged in this AM and was prompted to create a new password which I did. I went to access the sheet that I had created 3 months ago and been working on as late as 2 days ago. I am now told that my access is denied and to request permission. When i click the button it of course comes to my email! I click the email link and am told I don't have permission. I am stuck!
Thoughts on what might have happened?

1. You may have logged into a different Smartsheet account
When prompted to reset your password, you may have unknowingly reset it for a different account, especially if:
- You have multiple emails (e.g.,
yourname@company.com
andyourname@gmail.com
) - You used SSO previously, and now used a direct login instead (or vice versa)
2. Your email or account access may have changed
- Your account might’ve been deactivated or removed from the sheet by an admin.
- A workspace owner might have removed your access to that specific sheet.
3. Sheet ownership was transferred or revoked
If the sheet was stored in a workspace owned by someone else (e.g., your organization), and:
- That person changed permissions
- IT changed email access or disabled your user
Then your access would be denied, even if you created the sheet.
How to Troubleshoot & Fix It
✅ Step 1: Check What Account You’re Logged Into
- Click your profile image (top-right) → Account → Check the email address and user ID.
- Make sure it matches the account you used to create the sheet 3 months ago.
If it’s a different email, log out and try logging in with your original email.
✅ Step 2: Search for the Sheet
- Go to Home → Use the Search bar at the top.
- Try searching by sheet name or keyword.
If you can’t find it, it’s likely not owned by your current account.
✅ Step 3: Contact Your Smartsheet Admin
If this is a work/enterprise account:
- Reach out to your Smartsheet system admin or IT team.
- Ask if:
- Your account was changed or disabled
- The sheet/workspace was moved
- Permissions were altered
✅ Step 4: Check Email for Shared Links
You mentioned you received a request email, but clicking it didn’t help — this confirms you're logged into an account different from the one the sheet was shared with.
Try opening the email link in a different browser or Incognito window, and log in with the correct email.
