Can't use the new "Timeline View" when leveraging the new "Columns Link" in Table View

What I'm trying to do: I'm trying to leverage some of the new/upcoming features from Smartsheet to put together a sheet that brings information from multiple sheets to generate a timeline view of our Program Portfolio.

The problem I'm facing:

  • Column Linking in Table View uses essentially column formulas.
  • Timeline view and Grid view have a limitation where date columns can not be a column formula.
  • I can bring the information from multiple sheets into a consolidated one through Column Linking but now I can't use Timeline View.

I'm left in a position where the new features don't seem to be consistent with the other tool constraints.

I know I can go back and use options like Datamesh or Data Shuttle but the point here is Smartsheet's vision of these new features doesn't seem to considered holistically or at least not accounting for use cases like this.

    Hello @Camilo Meza

The Timeline view does not support Date columns using column formula as Start date or End date, but it does support cell formula columns.

As a workaround, you can convert the column formula of your existing Date columns to cell formula.

The Column linking feature in the mapped columns in Table view are equivalent with INDEX/MATCH column formulas in Grid view, so you can do the converting for those columns.

    Hope this works for you.
