How to Create a Basic Smartsheet Dashboard for Project Tracking as a Beginner?

Hi Smartsheet Community,

I’m new to Smartsheet and want to create a simple dashboard to track a small project (~15 tasks). I’m struggling to set it up effectively.

Setup: Smartsheet Free Plan, basic sheet with tasks, assignees, and deadlines.
Steps Tried:

Added a dashboard from the Solution Center; layout feels cluttered.
Tried adding a chart widget; data isn’t displaying correctly.
Looked for templates; unsure which fits a small project.

Questions:

What’s the easiest way to set up a clean dashboard for project tracking?
How do I fix chart widgets not showing data properly?
Any beginner-friendly dashboard templates you recommend?
