On enterprise plan with SSO, can a non-member edit a specific shared sheet indefinitely?

We're on an annual enterprise plan & we have SSO enabled. I have shared a sheet (with edit access) to a person in our org domain, who is not currently a member. They edited the sheet, but they still don't show up anywhere as a visitor or a provisional member (I'm the sys admin so I can see all the users.)

All the documentation seems to say that they would show up as a provisional member if they edit. Does that only occur once a day or something, that they are added to my user list?

Also, since I have it set so that provisional members do not become members automatically, would they automatically lose their access to edit at the quarterly renewal time? And no way to re-share it with them in edit access unless they become an actual member?

I could have sworn that I saw somewhere on this community that enterprise plans allow people to edit a specific sheet indefinitely without ever becoming a member, but I can't find it now and I'm trying to definitively understand this. Thanks for any help.

Great questions! Here’s what’s happening:

• When someone in your domain edits a sheet but isn’t a licensed user, they should appear as a provisional member in Admin Center—but this isn’t instant. It can take up to 24 hours for the sync to happen.
• If your settings prevent provisional members from auto-converting, they’ll keep access until the next quarterly true-up. After that, they’ll lose edit rights unless you convert them to a licensed user. You won’t be able to re-share with edit permissions unless they become licensed.
• On Enterprise plans, view-only access can be indefinite, but edit access requires a license. Provisional members are temporary editors until renewal—there’s no way to keep edit access indefinitely without converting them. This can be bypassed if you utilize Dynamic Views.
