Table view vs grid view sharing

Hey everyone,

So, with the news that Grid view is being retired later this year, I'm forcing myself to use Table view from now on.

Q - I'm using a sheet as a 'backend' database. I'm then sharing only the report with users, so they can see a clean, grouped dataset. So in theory, no users should be accessing the sheet (I know they could find it in workspaces, hence I've hidden columns, to make it useless.)

Here's the live user status from Grid view:

Why is there a difference? Could Table view be telling me that users are currently viewing this data via Reports?

Yes I get your meaning, I'm curious too now. @Lekshmi Unnithan  would you be able to help? Does the new table view show live viewers from reports? Or what else could these live viewer icons be for?

the icons refer to live viewers. It’s contradictory however as one view shows there are live viewers and the other shows none. I really doubt there are live viewers of the sheet, seeing as the columns are usually hidden.

I wanted clarity to see if the live viewers on table view are being inherited from live viewers of the Report.

Hi @darkmatter,

As far as I know if you want people to see anything in a report, you need to share the sheet with the original data at least with a viewer permission.

I'm not clear on what these icons mean, I do know that one of the intent on the table view was to show people live on it and I would expect that this would meant they're here on the sheet, but I would welcome someone else's answer on that. In all likelihood if they have access to the data on the report then they have access to it on the sheet.
