Is there a way to validate that a particular cell cannot be left blank or allow junk entries?

In our application, we have the smartsheet as the user interface to enter the data and then this data gets transported into the database by an API according to a set cadence. For data integrity purposes, I want to ensure that certain key fields should not be left blank or allowed junk values.

  • Smartsheet doesn't have a way to require someone to fill in a cell before they can save the sheet. Would it be possible to have your team members insert new rows via web form (http://help.smartsheet.com/customer/portal/articles/522221) rather than directly into the sheet? Since you can make fields required on a web form this might be a good way to make sure you're getting all the data you expect.

You might also use Conditional Formatting rules to make all required cells bright red when they're blank, as this would be a visual cue to team members that they need to fill in the cells. They wouldn't be required to fill them out but it may at least draw their attention to anything that was overlooked.

  • I know this post is a little old, but didn't want to create a new one for a related question........

Is it possible for an Update Request to not have a field left blank?
