How to automate a reminder to include parent row of the child row

I have a child task that I would like to send to the assigned person for an update. However, the email reminder sends only the child task, not including the parent row. Ideally, I want to use the "set a reminder". How can I set the email reminder to include the parent row?

Hello,

You'll need to either manually create another reminder for the parent row, or create a reminder based off of a date column and make sure that the parent row includes a date value.

Shaine, any plans to add this functionality in future? I know when we do filters we can include the task parent row (which is great) and would like to see that extend to the alerts and notifications too. So critical there to really get the context for what the task is you are being reminded about.

I agree. I thought for sure I'd be able to do this, but couldn't figure out how, now I know it is not possible. If I have multiple tasks beneath the parent row, I'm not sure adding another reminder for the parent row would be feasible. I really just need the name of the parent row to go in the email so the recipient knows which project they are getting a reminder for. I hope maybe this can be added in the future.

Hi @Lauren Merz

If you just need the name of the Parent row to be included in the same row as the Child Rows, you can use formulas to achieve this!

Create a helper column to house this formula and use something like this:

=PARENT([Primary Column]@row)

This will return the data in the Parent Row from the Primary Column into each row, so you'll have the Parent Name next to the current row's name.

You'll need to adjust the column name [in these] to reflect your sheet's column name that has the data you want returned. Then you can even hide this column (see here) if you don't want it in the sheet, but include the column in your workflow. Will this work for you?
