Report Column Names / Labels are not same as Smartsheet Column Names
Hi,
I have noticed on reports created from the original smartsheet that the Primary Column Label and automatic numbered columns don't have the same smartsheet column name.
When you pick the reporting you want to include it uses the original default titles as opposed to column titles used in the smartsheet (if you have changed this to a title which is business required)

However if you renamed these, when you create a report the only option is to use the default title.
Has anyone got a workaround for this?
Thanks,
Mark

In your report, where you see "Primary Column" as your title. Double click on the title and you can rename it back to whatever you want it to say.
Hope that solves the problem?

Thanks Richard, yes that works for the Primary Column, unfortunately not for the other columns in the report.

Mark, every sheet contains a primary column and while these may be named differently across sheets, they will all appear in the same column in a report (unlike other column types with different names). This is why it will default to "Primary Column" in the report but as Richard suggested, this can be changed by double clicking on the column header. At this time, there is not a way to change column headers in reports for any other column (including system columns).

Hi Travis,
Has there been any change since your post last year?
The ability to change column headers in reports for other columns is extremely important because the data is being pulled from summary calculations in another smartsheet and being displayed in Report format in our "Sights".
FYI - The summary calculates column totals from a "Purchase order" column using SUMIFS, but if we put the calculation in the same column as the "Purchase Order" Column, there will be a circular reference. How might we get around this issue?

Any movement on this one? For me, having the ability to rename all column headers in reports is pretty important - so I can tailor the report to different user groups. As it is now, I have to create different columns for each user group - it works, but it's a pain and makes sheet/report maintenance that much more of a hassle.

I agree. This is an extremely important feature. I just started using Smartsheet and I came across this issue within minutes of building my first report. That's how often and important this capability is.
Any update on if this has even been added to a list of possible future enhancements?

I also vote for this feature.

+1 vote. Critical Feature

Hi, upvote from my side too.
I want to be able to rename column in report and then it should give me the option if I want to rename only for the report or I want to rename back columns in the sheets. I am implementing smartsheet, have defined templates, but sometimes people dont follow the template or I want to modify the template as I get more experience with it. Then instead of going in every individual sheet to change the name or set the column type, I should be able to do this via report. This would add further to the benefit of smartsheet of having editable content in the report. Then you can also edit the file structure from one place. Right now manually editing structure of individual sheets might still be possible, but as time goes by we will be handling hundreds of sheets created from defined template in the company.

+1 for this feature

The ability to rename column titles or headers in reports (not in the original sheet) is extremely important. I am talking about all columns not just the primary column and again just to make clear, I am talking about renaming column titles in reports not in the original sheet.
I can see there are multiple requests for this feature just on this blog.
Has there been any update on this feature . . . ?
Thanks in advance.
