Notification of new comment - not to assigned user

Hi,

I am new to SS and trying to find my way around. One question I have is how to send notifications when comments are added.

I can see that I can send notification when column changes and choose comments column. I can then select to send it to a contact in column, and choose assigned user.

However, if someone comments on a task that is assigned to someone else and then someone replies to them, how does the original poster get notified if they are not assigned user?

Also, I don't think it is possible but is there any way to tag a user in a comment?

Thanks

Scott

  • Hi Scott,

There currently isn't a way to tag or @mention someone in a comment, but that's a feature that our Product team is interested in. When you have a moment, please submit a Product Enhancement Request (using the form under Quick links on the right of the community site) and let our Product team know how you'd like to see this feature in Smartsheet.

Right now, people can't be notified when someone replies to their comment, however you can create a notification that will notify all shared users when any changes to the comments column are made. They would have to sift through these to find the info relevant to them.

already loving the new @namefeature..making comments so much more user friendly.  thanks SS

  • Hi Shaine,

What if people do not send a notification to the users that they've added a comment? as compared to  the other cells, the 'comments' cell doesn't get highlighted, this poses an issue because I work on at least 10 sheets and I don't know if my colleagues have updated a comment for a certain row in one of the sheets.

what is the easiest and fastest way to see the comments added only when I need to check and not just randomly?

does something like how outlook prompts unread mails work here too. (Count of unread mail / visible marker like a 'question mark' on mails that are unread)

    Thanks,

    Shraddha Dedhia

    Hi Shraddha,

I can think of three different ways to see comments that are added/changed.

    1. Highlight Changes, you can see if anything is added or changed
    2. Filter to show if there are any comments.
    3. Conditional Formatting to color the cells or rows with comments

    This might also be helpful.

    Would that work?

    I hope this helps you!
