Insert Image by URL

I'd like to be able to insert an image by URL. It is much easier to copy the Dropbox link from the desktop and paste into Smartsheet rather than use the finder in Smartsheet to find the file in Dropbox and insert. This could also work for hot-linking to images hosted elsewhere.

Is this possible? If not, can we add the feature?

and would also be nice to just have it available as a preview, and not actually upload the image since it already exists in DropBox.

Hi Ken,

There currently isn't a way for Smartsheet to understand that you want Smartsheet to populate an image in a cell based a URL that points to where that image is hosted.

When you have a moment, please submit a Product Enhancement Request using the form under Quick links on the right of the community site and let our Product team know that you'd like to have this feature added.

I can't imagine it will be too hard to implement since they already have the feature to upload attachment by URL in the comments/attachments column.

Cells in the sheet will only be able to read the URL as a URL at this time; you'll need to use the Attachment tab if you want to attach a file via URL.

Thanks for the reply @Genevieve P.! I was trying to change a picture that is showing in the header on a template, the 'Meeting Agenda Portal'. It's a dashboard, if that helps. The original image had a URL but when I tried to upload one of my own links it would not work. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for clarifying, uploading images to Dashboards does make a difference! For the Image Widget, you can upload an image from your computer or insert an image from Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, or Dropbox.
