Hello Bob,
Currently there isn't a way have elapsed time in lag days, but I'll note your idea for this option in our enhancement request list for our Product Team.

Bob,
This exact scenario can be solved using Azuqua, an integration partner of Smartsheet. I work for Azuqua and we have the ability to log a timestamp for the start of an event and then log a timestamp for the end of the event and using a formula calculate the exact duration of the task.
In your particular instance if you used two columns, both checkes, to indicate the start and finish of the paint cure times using Azuqua you can set up a monitor for those two events and when each even happens it will log the exact timestamp of the action and the result of both start and end will provide you with duration.
