If you create a template in Smartsheet, does that template have any type of document control, history, or revision numbering assigned to it? We need to keep control of revisions to the templates and would like to know the best practice for this in Smartsheet.

Thanks

  • You can view cell history and there is an activity log you can also view. We use versioning control on our templates.  Example: Template A_v0.1_2018.07.23 and so on.  You can also limited who has access to update the template.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks Joy. My CI Director was asking and I gave him the same answers regarding cell history and renaming new versions.  I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything since I did not see any version control on the document itself.  This should work.

To be clear, I am assuming that updating the template is done by updating the underlying sheet that created the template and renaming it with a new version level, then saving it as the new template.  Correct?
