Graphic Archive Numbering Concatenation

I am trying to figure out how to connect a number of columns to output a number into a new column. We have a need for a graphic archive number that could combine all these elements. artist name, creation date, and a numerical counter. 

So, if Joe Artist makes a new graphic on August 1st, 2018, and its his twelfth graphic of the day, it would take the artist/date columns and concatenate it to JA060118, and then see that this code has been used 1 through 10 and name this one JA060118-11. 

Is this possible with smartsheets?

Hi,

What you would use is the join function and either the auto number column or some hierarchy in the sheet.

Depending on your specific use case you could maybe set it up with parents and children for different artists and then a formula to join the different parts together.

If JOIN() does not work for your use case (usually because of column/row order), to combine strings use the plus sign

="This text" + "that text"

results in

This textthat text

(note no space)
