ODBC Connections and Outside Apps

Hi all, Hoping i can find some recommendations that can assist with an app development. I am creating a simple VS2010 Visual Basic app and report that will create purchase orders using smartsheet as the database back end.

I have unlocked the smartsheet potential in ODBC connection but I am wondering if anyone has recommendations on ODBC login using API SSO as the login instead of username and password?

I am also wondering if anyone has had success in writing back to smartsheet the results (in my case some basic order header details)

Hello Aviva,

Generating an API token for authentication methods in ODBC is used when your Smartsheet Organization Account is SAML, Google or Azure AD strict and does not allow for Username and Password. Should you wish to review take a look at this section of our ODBC github article http://smartsheet-platform.github.io/odbc-docs/#connect-using-api-access-token-(for-sso-users) for further assistance configuring the tool to use your API token.

The ODBC tool is a one way sync from Smartsheet to your designated application. So, unfortunately, you will not be able to use this method to write back to Smartsheet. We do have our Data Uploader tool(https://www.smartsheet.com/datauploader) available that may be an option, depending on file types. We do a great job of documenting each feature in Smartsheet, that has an associated and available API call that can be used.
