Issues with Smartsheet and firewalls

I'm trying to assist a community of Smartsheet users working within a very controlled network. In order for their access to work correctly, I need to determine what Internet resources Smartsheet uses. Here is what I've seen so far:

http - smartsheet.com
https - app.smartsheet.com
https - s.smartsheet.com
https - www.smartsheet.com
https - 69.20.8.240/29 (Rackspace)

It also appears as though Smartsheet may use resources from Limelight and AWS, however I'm having trouble nailing this down. Can anyone point me in the direction of some network usage info, firewall requirements, or other documentation on this?

I tried contacting Smartsheet support, but all they were willing to tell me was that the app "require [sic] an active, persistent internet connection". As it stands, Smartsheet is totally unusable for these folks and they will have to start using a different product if we can't figure it out.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi Jason,

It is true, Smartsheet does require a stable internet connection to work. I spoke with our Operations team who informed me Smartsheet runs off port 443 if that helps. Also, we do not advise statically assigning IP addresses to forward as we could change datacenters.

Depending on the type of work the users need to do while in the low bandwidth area, you might consider having them use the mobile app (Android and iOS) or the mobile website (which can be run in computer browsers if they are configured to emulate a mobile device) which can run better on low bandwidth connections.

  • Thank you for the reply. As common as port 443 is, I'm not sure that is going to be a helpful characteristic for identifying Smartsheet traffic. Without more to go on, it doesn't sound like we'll be able to do much. I'll suggest trying the mobile client for what it's worth, but we'll likely have to move on to another solution.
