Smartsheets sends alerts for templates

I have an issue where we have created a bunch of templates that include notifications. Those templates, even though they are not active sheets are sending reminders to the individuals denoted in the column specified in the template even though they are not necessarily assigned to any tasks (because it is a template!). Any ideas on how to stop these notifications?

Have you considered disabling the notifications on the templates? And making it a practice when you create a new project from the template to re-enable the notification?

I would also make sure you are actually using the "template" as a template and not just a sheet that you make copies from.
