Using Formulas in "Assigned to" collumn?

+1 Vote for this.  We need a way to automate the assignment of Projects/Rows to different Contacts based on the dropdown value from another column in our form that indicates the project type.  Please get this added asap, otherwise forms are pretty useless!  Wrike can do this. Workfront can do this.  Others can do this.  Get it together and prioritize this for your customers.

Agreed.  I would like to set up a vacation approval form that auto populates the approver (contact) based on the team/rank of the requester..  No can do

Submitted an enhancement request. Tons of manual work required because I can't use contacts from one sheet in another - need to input them by hand so notifications etc. work.

This seems to be a fundamental requirement for "reducing the effort of your work", which Smartsheet brags about being able to do.  I agree with previous posts.  Stop worrying about the location of the gui and focus on some real time savers

Simple example:  We put our Vacation Calendar in Smartsheet.  I want to Alert/Remind the leader of the individual 2 days before the vacation day.

I am dealing with the same situation. Any workaround you find that works? Can't use Alerts unless there is a Contact column, and the name and e-mail is auto populated from another sheet. Just need that information to them autopopulate the Contact column!

+1...submitted a product enhancement request for this -as I'm sure many here have. Do they ever respond to these requests personally? Feel like I'm submitted requests into a black hole. That's not good if I already feel that way and I've been a user for less than 2 months.

They respond personally if they want/need more information.

Don't think of it as a black hole. Rather, a massive list of requests that need to be prioritized with possibility, investment, the time required and probably a lot more in mind.

Just submitted an enhancement request. I've been fighting for this product to improve our onboarding process, which is extremely detailed (we do compliance for a regulated industry) and this flaw is seriously giving me pause. The process we use is 120 rows (and growing), so this is more than an inconvenience.

As a Product Owner, I'm blown away that Smartsheet is not pushing this up the backlog. It's Project Management software... The ability to quickly and easily assign tasks is a necessity.
