Dashboard Chart Formatting

I currently have a chart on a dashboard displaying information from a certain range of data. If I change what data is being selected, it reverts to default formatting (e.g if I select different data for a stacked bar chart, it reverts to a non-stacked column chart and all the colors per series return to default colors as well.)

Is it possible to change the data without the chart reformatting itself? Or is it possible to copy the formatting from one chart to another?

This is disappointing to hear, as it seems like a major oversight for something as basic as making a chart.
