Using Links with Symbols

I would like to use a Symbol designation (Red, Yellow, Green) for one of the fields in our sheet. When I try to link that cell to another cell in a differenet Smartsheet, the cell changes from the symbol to a text field.

 

Is there any way to link cells and keep the Symbol formatting?

Dear Robert,

 

the type of the two (link from / link to) columns should be the same, in this case "Symbol", even the symbol type (RYG) should be equivalent. Otherwise only the text (eg. "Green") appears.
