Ability for cell linking to add new inserted rows
I created a sheet utilizing cell links in order to create all of my formulas needed for my dashboard. However, I noticed that the cell linked columns do not add the newly inserted rows from the master sheet. Is there a way for the cell linking to add the newly inserted rows from the master sheet or do I have to continually update my cell links each time I add a row in the master sheet?

Unfortunately, that feature is not available at this time. Please submit a product enhancement request.

I submitted a product enhancement request but considering how many of these have been submitted over time, I'm not holding my breath that Smartsheet will do anything about it. As I use Smartsheet more and running into so many limitations, I'm starting to think this is not the best software option.

understood. Smartsheets is not really a relational database so it lacks a lot of those functions. I hope you find the answer to your questions as soon as possible. Do be aware that there are 3rd party solutions like Zapier that can integrate with Smartsheets and add new rows to sheets based on rows being added to another sheet. But I am not practiced with that solution and it is an additional cost not directly associated with Smartsheets.

Hi Heather,
I wanted to chime in because it sounds like you could potentially get the desired result by using cross-sheet formulas.
For example, when creating a formula you could select "reference another sheet" and then click on the column header to reference the entire column. Any new rows added to the sheet would be included in the formula. You could also use advanced functions like SUMIF and COUNTIF, to specify a criteria.
If needed, more information on this can be found in our help article: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/2476606-formulas-reference-data-from-other-sheets

I've also ran into the same issue. I have a manual work around but it's not ideal. I'd love to see if you made it work with the cross sheet formulas though. I've looked into Zapier but didn't see anything to link certain cells automatically.

Have there been updates to SmartSheet to allow cell linking and the addition to new rows or is creating a cross sheet formula the only solution?

Hi,
I hope you're well and safe!
Unfortunately, no, but it's still an excellent idea!
